FSU football continues to add to its 2021 recruiting class.

FSU football still has major roster needs in its 2021 recruiting class, and they are using the transfer portal to address a number of them.

However, Mike Norvell and staff addressed the defensive back position Monday night with UCF transfer Brandon Moore.

He’s the eighth transfer player to join the 2021 recruiting class, along with quarterback McKenzie Milton, Jarques McClellion, Jermaine Johnson, Keir Thomas, Jammie Robinson, D.J. Williams, and Andrew Parchment.

Moore announced via his Twitter account:

Moore checks in at 6’0″ and 186 pounds and is coming off an ACL injury and dislocated kneecap in the 2019 season opener. The former three-star recruit played in 27 games and had 76 tackles, 18 pass breakups, and two interceptions.

Moore is a former teammate of FSU QB McKenzie Milton, and it’s likely Milton vouched for Moore as a player with this staff.

Thoughts

I’m the first to talk about the work Mike Norvell and staff have done to flip this roster with the 2021 class.

However, I have to say this move doesn’t make a lot of sense because the defensive back isn’t a huge position of need. Not to mention Moore is coming off an injury and hasn’t played in two years.

He only has one year of eligibility remaining too. I feel like the staff could have gotten more value out of this scholarship with another defensive end or offensive tackle.

It’s not that I think Moore is a bad player, he has been productive when healthy, and I hope he proves the coaching staff right in 2021. Maybe this is a foreshadowing of one or two defensive backs planning to enter the transfer portal soon?

Moore is the No. 24 player in the 2021 recruiting class, which leaves one or two more spots in the recruiting class. The Noles are targeting Destyn Hill, and Tywone Malone from the high school ranks as well.
