FSU football coaches continue to add to its 2021 recruiting class.

FSU football still has major roster needs in its 2021 recruiting class, and they are using the transfer portal to address a number of them.

However, Mike Norvell and staff addressed the defensive tackle position Saturday with South Carolina transfer Keir Thomas.

He’s the fifth transfer player to join the 2021 recruiting class, along with quarterback McKenzie Milton, Jarques McClellion, Jermaine Johnson, and Andrew Parchment.

Thomas announced via his Twitter account:

Thomas checks in at 6’3″ and 275 pounds. He provides immediate depth at the defensive tackle position with Marvin Wilson heading to the NFL and Cory Durden in the transfer portal.

Thomas could see time at defensive end as well. The former three-star recruit has one year of eligibiity remaining after playing at South Carolina the past four years.

The addition of Thomas will allow younger players the time to develop as they get accustomed to college life.

He was eighth on the team with 32 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks in seven games in 2020.

Thoughts

This move is solid for the coaching staff as Thomas can help the FSU roster in a number of ways. He originally hails from Miami, Florida, and can be someone future recruits could talk with regarding his time with the current staff.

This commitment shows the coaches’ recruiting strategy of gaining experience and players that can play right away from the transfer portal.

He’s the No. 21 player in the 2021 recruiting class with about five spots remaining to fill.
