FSU football continues to address needs in 2021 recruiting.

FSU football still has major roster needs in its 2021 recruiting class. They need a wide receiver, offensive tackle, and defensive end.

However, Mike Norvell and staff addressed part of the latter Saturday afternoon with Georgia linebacker transfer Jermaine Johnson.

He’s the third transfer player to join the 2021 recruiting class, along with quarterback McKenzie Milton and cornerback Jarques McClellion.

Johnson set the Twitter timeline on fire when he announced the news:

Johnson checks in at 6’6″ and 250 pounds. He immediately addresses the lack of pass rushers on the roster.

The former No. 1 overall JUCO player played in seven games(starting three) with the Georgia Bulldogs in 2020 before entering the transfer portal. He finished the season with 16 tackles, four sacks, and five tackles for loss. Those five sacks all came in SEC play against Alabama, Florida, Mississippi State, and Kentucky.

He also saw playing time with Georgia in 2019, appearing in 14 games.

Thoughts

Many people didn’t believe FSU had a real shot at Johnson, even though he was interested in the Noles coming out of junior college with Willie Taggart’s staff. He immediately becomes the best pass-rushing option on the team, as he would have led FSU in sacks this year with his five this year.

This commitment is a major boost for FSU football from a needs perspective and a destination perspective for impact players in the transfer portal.

The commitment could mean more quality players joining the 2021 recruiting class. Johnson is the 20th player, which leaves about six spots to fill.

The Noles could be adding an experienced wide receiver transfer soon, and will be looking to address the offensive tackle position when a quality option presents itself. Stay tuned FSU football fans, as this class will be better than its final ranking after National Signing Day.
