Timing

This is the perfect time to start a new quarterback. It’s almost an entirely new coaching staff that didn’t recruit any of the current quarterbacks on the roster.

The reason Willie Taggart had to start Deondre Francois and James Blackman in subsequent years was because he was unable to attract prep quarterbacks or quality graduate transfers.

The fact he got hired in such a short time frame in December 2017 did hinder his ability to be successful there.

His offense being absolutely terrible in 2018 made it even more difficult to land a graduate transfer after missing on the aforementioned Sam Howell.

Mike Norvell comes to FSU football with an excellent reputation as an offensive mind. His offenses have been among the best in college football over the last three or four years.

That along with the FSU football brand should make it possible to land a graduate transfer if he decides to go that route.

The news of Marvin Wilson, Cory Durden, Janarious Robinson and emergence of Emmett Rice at linebacker coupled with improved coaching should give a larger margin of error for the offense in 2020. After all, a number of losses this season could be placed on the defense or lack thereof.
