FSU Softball: Season sweep of Florida would forgive recent slump
By Jason Parker
FSU softball is still far from being in full panic mode, but knows it needs to get things back in order as they look to do something rare Wednesday night.
For the last year, the FSU softball team has been enjoying the fun and accolades that come with being the defending national champs of the sport – while also knowing that the bullseye is squarely on their garnet and gold jerseys with everyone else in the game coming for them and trying to take the crown.
For the first 39 games of the season, the Seminoles lived up to what they were supposed to do and won 36 of those games while getting back up to the No. 1 spot in the polls for points during that span – however, the last six games have been a much different story.

After dropping two out of three gams two weekends ago to Louisville, FSU softball took the first game in their series this past weekend against North Carolina – before dropping a double header on Monday, marking the first time the Noles have lost back to back ACC series since the end of the 2011 season when they lost to Maryland and Georgia Tech.
While the word “slump” isn’t quite there yet for head coach Lonni Alameda’s team, they know that the perfect chance to get out of the recent funk comes Wednesday night when the Seminoles welcome the rival Florida Gators to Tallahassee for their second and final regular season meeting of 2019.
FSU softball took the first game of their series earlier this season when they got a 2-0 victory in Gainesville – and with a win this time, the Seminoles would have their first regular season series sweep since the 2006 and just the fourth in the 23 seasons of fast pitch softball that the teams have faced off (joining the 2001 and 2003 seasons as the first two).
Much like their friends on the baseball team, the FSU softball team has been killed when they commit errors, with five coming last weekend alone against the Tar Heels after committing just 25 errors in the first 42 games alone.
The Seminoles have the advantage of having lost just one game at home this season (vs. Notre Dame) and have won their last two games at home against the Gators, part of three wins in their last four games against the in-state foe.
