Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.

If you hear a sound of people associated with the FSU baseball team frantically searching for something around Dick Howser Stadium at this moment, it’s just the players and coaches looking for the panic button after yet another start to a season that has turned into the begins of a disaster that has some wondering if Mike Martin will get a final postseason appearance.

It isn’t even so much that the Seminoles have lost games to a rival that is one of the better teams in the game or a ranked ACC team who might just end up being a national seed – but it’s losing games against teams they have no business losing to, including blowing a lead in their latest setback this week.

Now, the Seminoles hit the road for what is the final regular season series Martin will be in the dugout for against the team that is arguably the biggest rival for FSU baseball in their history – with both teams needing a series win to take their NCAA tournament chances off life support.

Here’s our preview of this week’s games between the Seminoles and their foe during this week of action.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

For the first five innings on Tuesday, the FSU baseball team was in control as they gave up just two hits to the Jacksonville Dolphins hitters and the Seminoles got a two run homer in the bottom of the inning by Mike Salvatore to give them the lead.

But then, as things have gone of late for the Noles, things went south for those in garnet and gold as the Dolphins got a run each in the sixth and eighth innings to tie things up. In the 11th inning, the Dolphins got a double and single to start things off and take the lead while the Seminole went three up and three down to lose for the ninth time in their last 14 games.

Opponent Preview

While FSU baseball enters the weekend with a 18-10 record, their foes this weekend have had their struggles as well as the Miami Hurricanes and first year coach Gino DiMare host the Seminoles in one of the top rivalries in all of college sports – and the final time Martin is schedule to face the ‘Canes in his 40 season career.

At 18-11 on the year, Miami has won three of their last five games – including a midweek loss on Wednesday over FAU – after dropping losing six straight games that included a sweep by N.C. State and a midweek loss to Columbia as the team looks to get to the NCAA Tournament after missing it the last two seasons.

Interesting Fact

While the Seminoles have struggled against their other rivals from the University of Florida of late – the Noles risk getting swept for the third straight season if they lose at home on Tuesday – they can at least take solace in the fact that history is in their favor in one regard.

In the past 71 seasons the FSU baseball team has played, they have never been swept by both the Gators and the Hurricanes in the same season. Five times, UF has swept the Noles (including four in the last seven seasons) while in a stat that may shock some Miami has never swept the Seminoles in a season.
