Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.

For as long as many FSU baseball fans can remember, the Seminoles have that traditional point in the season – usually after one of those hot starts to the year that build up hope of a national title finally coming to Tallahassee – where the Noles start to have a slump and make people wonder if this is the season where things fall apart.

The Seminoles seem to have hit that point over the last two weeks were they have lost more games than they have won and even didn’t look all that great in the ones that they did, needing comeback efforts this past week against inferior teams just to avoid an epic failure from taking place.

Now, head coach Mike Martin and his Seminoles begin a streak of games that can make or break the season with their second midweek game of the season against a hated rival who has been kryptonite for FSU baseball during the better part of this decade.

Here’s our preview of this week’s games between the Seminoles and their foe during this week of action.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

After splitting their midweek games against in-state foes UCF and FIU, the Seminoles bored a plane for frigid South Bend and a three game series against the Fighting Irish – a series that was delayed a day due to weather with the teams playing a double header on Saturday.

In the opener, FSU baseball relied on home runs from Drew Mendoza and Elijah Cabell along with solid pitching from Drew Parrish and two relievers to get the 7-0 win – fun that was short lived as the men in gold helmets opened a can of payback in game two as Notre Dame scored 12 runs in the first six innings and coasted to a 12-3 win.

In the rubber match, nine innings wouldn’t be enough as the teams went to an extra frame as the Noles got two runs in the 10th inning and J.C. Flowers got a save after allowing the first two runners on before getting the next three outs for the 3-1 victory.

Opponent Preview

Just two weeks after giving up the second most runs ever in the series, FSU baseball heads over to Jacksonville for the second game of the annual midweek series with the Florida Gators – with the teams having split the 12 games they have played inside the home of the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp minor league team (look it up, that’s their name).

Florida heads over the first coast with a 16-10 record on the season and are slumping on their own since beating the Seminoles, losing five of their last seven games that include being swept this past weekend by SEC foe Vanderbilt and losing two out of three to Mississippi State.

Interesting Fact

After starting off the season with a 13-1 record, FSU baseball has dropped five of their last nine games and need to get back to winning soon – as over their next 12 games, the Seminoles will face the Gators twice along with a three game series against rival Miami to go along with ACC series against Clemson and Boston College plus a midweek game vs. Jacksonville.
