Over the last two decades entering 2017, the Gators have been able to win three football titles (the same number as FSU even though we’ve only been around two thirds the time they have) to go along with two basketball titles and this year’s baseball crown – no doubt, plenty to brag about.
Before that? Well…there was a women’s soccer title in the late 1990’s and…um…well…someone wanna help me here?
The fact of the matter is that while Miami fans are guilty of living in the past way too much about national titles in football and baseball that were won while this year’s freshman were still in diapers, they at least have a history that spans back longer than the second term of former President Bill Clinton.
This is a Florida team that didn’t win a football conference title until their 58th season in the SEC, 56th season in men’s basketball and won three baseball titles in their first five decades. Yet, to hear most Gators fans say it, they have the athletic tradition of a Notre Dame, USC or Texas.
Hearing fans talk…that brings us to the next point.
