FSU Olympic Sports Recap: April 19th-25th
By Jason Parker
Let’s take a look at how FSU and their Olympic sport teams did this past week.
While much of the attention is paid to the major FSU sports, including football, basketball and baseball, there is plenty of other athletic competition going on right now on the Tallahassee campus and across the country involving the ‘Noles. Here’s a recap of how some of the Olympic sports fared this past week.
Softball
The second ranked Lady ‘Noles had another successful week on the diamond, starting off with a two game sweep on the road against Troy. Over the weekend, FSU not only got a sweep of ACC foe Louisville, but also won the conference regular season crown for the fifth straight year and the 15th time in history. Florida State will get the weekdays off before hosting North Carolina for a three game set starting Friday.
Beach Volleyball
The fourth ranked Lady ‘Noles can again call themselves conference champs after winning all six of their matches this weekend in the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Conference Championship played in Georgia. The weekend included wins over South Carolina, FAU, UNC Wilmington, Tulane and two wins over FIU – including Sunday’s 3-0 win over the Panthers. FSU will now get the weekend off before taking part in the NCAA Championships in Gulf Shores, AL.

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field
A total of six different Seminoles brought home victories at the Cardinal Classic, hosted by Stanford this past weekend. This coming Friday, it’s off to Gainesville for the annual Tom Jones Invitational hosted by the Florida Gators.
Men’s and Women’s Tennis
The men’s team finished the regular season with a split at home this weekend, beating Virginia Tech and losing to third ranked Virginia. Florida State will head to the ACC tournament this Thursday in Rome, GA where they will open up against Clemson. The women’s team had the same exact outcomes this week on the road, losing to Virginia and beating Virginia Tech. The Lady ‘Noles will open conference tournament play on Thursday as well when they play Virginia again.
Men’s and Women’s Golf
After starting off on a high note during round one of the ACC Tournament, the men’s team took a slight step back and finished in fourth place at four over par, one stroke behind third place Wake Forest and just 18 strokes behind champions Duke. They will now take off until May 15th for the NCAA Tournament. The women’s team was off this weekend before they take part in the Northwestern Quad Match this Saturday before the NCAA Tournament starts on May 8th.
