FSU Olympic Sports Recap: April 12th-18th
By Jason Parker
Let’s take a look at how FSU and their Olympic sport teams did this past week.
While much of the attention is paid to the major FSU sports, including football, basketball and baseball, there is plenty of other athletic competition going on right now on the Tallahassee campus and across the country involving the ‘Noles. Here’s a recap of how some of the Olympic sports fared this past week.
Softball
After going unbeaten in their previous 29 games – 28 of those being wins – the top ranked Lady ‘Noles found out how the other half lives this week. Wednesday, FSU found themselves in an epic battle with No. 3 Florida, as the Gators got the game winning run with two outs in the seventh inning for the 1-0 win. This weekend, FSU split their two games at South Carolina, losing on Friday before salvaging a win on Saturday. The Lady ‘Noles continue their road trip with a doubleheader Tuesday at Troy followed by a weekend series at Louisville.
Beach Volleyball
The fourth ranked Lady ‘Noles concluded the home portion of their 2017 schedule with four matches all against ranked foes. FSU won matches over No. 9 Grand Canyon and No. 12 FIU while splitting their two matches against No. 2 Pepperdine. Florida State will head to Georgia this weekend for the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Conference Championship

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field
Both teams spent the weekend off and will head out west starting Friday for the Cardinal Classic, hosted by Stanford University.
Men’s and Women’s Tennis
The 33rd ranked men’s team finished off the road portion of their regular season schedule, dropping Friday’s match with top ranked Wake Forest before winning Sunday at N.C. State. They will return home this weekend for the regular season finales Friday against Virginia Tech and Sunday against Virginia.
It was the opposite for the women’s team, who finished up their home regular season slate with wins Thursday over Notre Dame and FAMU before losing Sunday to Clemson. They will hit the road this weekend for matches against Virginia on Friday and Virginia Tech on Sunday.
Men’s and Women’s Golf
The women’s team finished up the ACC Championships this weekend, coming up with a second place finish at four strokes over par for the weekend – nine strokes behind champion Duke and six strokes ahead of rival Miami in third place. The Lady ‘Noles will now have some time off before the NCAA Tournament starts on May 8th.
The men’s team had the weekend off as they prepare for a trip to North Carolina and the ACC Men’s Golf Championships. Last season, FSU finished in third place behind champion Clemson and second place Wake Forest.
