Let’s take a look at how FSU and their Olympic sport teams did this past week.

While much of the attention is paid to the major FSU sports, including football, basketball and baseball, there is plenty of other athletic competition going on right now on the Tallahassee campus and across the country involving the ‘Noles. Here’s a recap of how some of the Olympic sports fared this past week.

Softball

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but the top ranked Lady ‘Noles ended the week without a loss after getting another conference sweep, this time on the road against Syracuse. FSU took game one on Saturday by a score of 18-9 before sweeping a Sunday doubleheader. This week, it’s off to Gainesville for a midweek showdown with the third ranked Florida Gators before heading out of conference for a two game set this weekend against South Carolina.

Beach Volleyball

It was quite a welcomed return for the fourth ranked Lady ‘Noles, who swept the Staybridge Suites Invitational this weekend. Florida State got 5-0 match wins against TCU along with No. 13 Florida Atlantic and No. 11 South Carolina. The Lady ‘Noles stay home this weekend for four matches that include two against Pepperdine and one each against FIU and Grand Canyon.

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field

Both teams sent multiple athletes up the road to Knoxville, TN to take part in the Tennessee Relays. After taking this upcoming weekend off, both teams will be back on the road and in Palo Alto, CA for the Cardinal Classic hosted by Stanford.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis

The men’s team continued their losing streak on Friday, dropping their fourth straight match when Notre Dame upset FSU at home. On Sunday, the Seminoles finally got back on the right side with a shutout win over Boston College. The men’s team will be on the road for matches Friday and Saturday against N.C. State and Wake Forest.

The women’s team returns to action after a weekend off, hosting Notre Dame and FAMU in a double header on Thursday before hosting Clemson on Sunday in the home finale.

Men’s and Women’s Golf

The men’s team had an impressive showing this weekend in North Carolina as part of the Irish Creek Intercollegiate tournament, finishing third with a -10 under par score, four strokes behind winner North Florida and two behind second place Wake Forest. They will have this weekend off before the ACC Championships on April 21-23.

The women’s team got a boost this week with a scheduled match against rival Florida, in which the third ranked Lady ‘Noles defeated the No. 6 Gators 3-2 in the match play win. FSU will head to South Carolina starting Thursday for the ACC Championships.
