FSU Olympic Sports Recap: March 22nd-28th
By Jason Parker
Let’s take a look at how FSU and their Olympic sport teams did this past week.
While much of the attention is paid to the major FSU sports, including football, basketball and baseball there is plenty of other athletic competition going on right now on the Tallahassee campus and across the country involving the ‘Noles. Here’s a recap of how some of the Olympic sports fared this past week.
Softball
The top ranked Lady ‘Noles hit the road this past week for four games – and came out on top in each and every single one. It started in the middle of the week with a 4-0 win over UCF and continued in a three game weekend sweep of Virginia, winning by a combined 31-1. It’s back home this coming weekend for a three game ACC series against the Pittsburgh Panthers.
Beach Volleyball
It was back on the mainland for the fourth ranked Lady ‘Noles, who had four matches this past weekend in Columbia, SC. After dropping yet another match with Southern Cal, FSU bounced back to win their next three – wins over Georgia State, Stetson and host South Carolina. It’s back to the Sunshine State this weekend as the team will be on Miami Beach for the fifth annual Surf and Turf Invitational, taking on five teams that include Tulane, FIU, UCLA, Arizona State and New Orleans.

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field
Both teams played hosts this past weekend to the annual FSU Relays, which featured some of the top teams in the country on Friday and some of the top high school talent in the state of Saturday. Both squads will be heading down to hostile territory this weekend when they travel to Gainesville for the annual Florida Relays on the campus of the University of Florida.
Men’s and Women’s Tennis
It was a mixed back for the 29th ranked men’s team, who went on the road last Friday and took down Louisville before coming home Sunday and dropping their match to UCF. FSU will be on the road for the weekend in the Tar Heel State, taking on UNC on Friday and Duke this Sunday.
The women’s team broke a four match losing streak with a win Friday over Louisville followed by a Sunday win over Pittsburgh. They play at Boston College this Friday before coming home Sunday to face Syracuse.
Men’s and Women’s Golf
The men’s team continues their break from action this week, while the women’s team gets back on the links in South Carolina for the annual Clemson Invitational.
