FSU Sports: Olympic Sports Week In Review
By Jason Parker
Let’s take a look at how FSU’s Olympic sport teams did this past week.
While much of the attention is paid to the major FSU sports, including football, basketball and baseball, there is plenty of other athletic competition going on right now on the Tallahassee campus and across the country involving the ‘Noles. Here’s a recap of how some of the Olympic sports fared this past week.
Softball
It is now a three peat for the Lady ‘Noles as champions of the ACC’s Postseason Tournament. The sixth ranked team took out 20th ranked Notre Dame 7-3 on Saturday to bring home the title after winning the first two games of the tournament by a combined score of 15-1. FSU softball had to wait until Sunday night to find out their NCAA Tournament seeding…and it’s a good one. The Lady ‘Noles are the No. 8 seed nationally and will open regional play in Tallahassee, joined in the regional by FAMU, USF and South Carolina.
Men’s and Women’s Track and Field
The Seminoles played host to the annual ACC Outdoor Championships this weekend at Mike Long Track. On the women’s side, it was another conference championship for the Seminoles as FSU finished with 106.5 points, which was enough to put them far ahead of second place Miami. On the men’s side, the Seminoles tried to make a late push, but finished in a tie for fourth place while Virginia Tech was crowned the champs.

Men’s Tennis
It was one and done for the Seminoles in the NCAA Tournament as the 22nd ranked team lost to 35th ranked Baylor by a score of 4-3 in the first round match hosted by the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. FSU finished the season with a team record of 18-9, which included being knocked out in the first round of both the ACC and NCAA Tournaments this season.
Men’s Golf
The Seminoles are on the road to play in the NCAA Tournament, where they will take part in the Kohler, Wisconsin regional as the second seed in the 13-team field, joined by the rival and third seeded Florida Gators and top seeded Illinois. The event begins on Monday and will run for three days.
Women’s Golf
The Lady ‘Noles had the weekend off to prepare for the upcoming NCAA Championships, which they qualified for after finishing second overall in the Shoal Creek, AL regional over one week ago. FSU is one of 24 schools to make the cut for the six-day tournament, a field that includes rivals Florida and Miami along with ACC foes Duke, Virginia and North Carolina.
