Let’s take a look at how FSU’s Olympic sports teams did this past week.

While much of the attention is paid to the major FSU sports, including football, basketball and baseball, there is plenty of other athletic competition going on right now on the Tallahassee campus and across the country involving the ‘Noles. Here’s a recap of how some of the Olympic sports fared this past week.

Beach Volleyball

You can add another conference championship to FSU’s trophy case as the Lady ‘Noles dominated the inaugural CCSA Championships this weekend in Emerson, Georgia (northwest of Atlanta). After surviving their first match and beating LSU 3-2, the Seminoles didn’t lose a game in their remaining four matches, shutting out UAB once and South Carolina twice (all three matches by 5-0 scores) before defeating ninth ranked Georgia State 3-0 for the title. Now, the Lady ‘Noles prepare for the NCAA Championships May 6th-8th, where they will likely be a top seed when the field is announced this coming Sunday.

Softball

After splitting a midweek doubleheader on the road at third ranked Auburn, the Lady ‘Noles returned home and handled their business with a three game sweep over ACC foe Virginia Tech. The series was highlighted by a 13-1 win on Sunday that was called in the fifth inning based on the mercy rule. FSU will stay home for a Tuesday showdown against UCF before hitting the road for a three game weekend series against ACC opponent Pittsburgh.

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field

Team members for the Seminoles on rival turf this past Friday when they participated in the annual Ton Jones Memorial Tournament on the campus of the University of Florida. This weekend, members of both teams will be in Philadelphia for one of the most prestigious events in all of track and field, the annual Penn Relays.

Men’s Tennis

It was one and done for the Seminoles on the hard court as the 21st ranked men’s team was bounced in their first game of the ACC Tournament, losing 4-3 to Virginia Tech. At 18-8 and 9-3 for the season, the ‘Noles now wait to see if they will get a selection to play in the NCAA Tournament, which would start on May 13th.

Women’s Tennis

After finishing off the regular season with three straight wins, the Lady ‘Noles continued their march toward a miracle postseason with a win in their ACC Tournament opener over Boston College. In their second match, FSU was knocked off by 16th ranked Virginia 4-3, all but likely finishing the season for a Lady ‘Noles team that finished 14-3 and 4-10 in the ACC.

Men’s Golf

FSU was in North Carolina for the annual ACC Tournament, where the Seminoles stayed in third place for the entire weekend and finished 20 strokes behind conference champions Clemson (both the Tigers and ‘Noles were joined by Wake Forest as the only schools to shoot under par for the weekend). Now, the ‘Noles await the NCAA Tournament, with competition starting May 12th.

Women’s Golf

The Lady ‘Noles continue to wait for the NCAA Tournament, with matches starting May 12th across the country. Barring something absolutely insane, FSU will make the tournament field and head to one of the four regional locations (either Birmingham, Alabama, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Palo Alto, California or College Station, Texas)
