FSU Sports: Olympic Sports Week In Review
By Jason Parker
Let’s take a look at how FSU’s Olympic sports teams did this past week.
While much of the attention is paid to the major FSU sports, including football, basketball and baseball, there is plenty of other athletic competition going on right now on the Tallahassee campus and across the country involving the ‘Noles. Here’s a recap of how some of the Olympic sports fared this past week.
Softball
The Lady ‘Noles started the week with their rivalry game against the Florida Gators halted in the ninth inning as rain poured in Gainesville. That game will be concluded when the teams meet in Tallahassee on May 4th. After that, FSU made quick work of Boston College this weekend en route to a three game sweep. The ‘Noles will be on the road for a double header against Auburn on Wednesday before playing host to Virginia Tech this weekend.
Beach Volleyball
The hottest team in FSU athletics this spring may be the ladies on the sand as the Seminoles added four more wins to their record during this weekend’s FSU Beach Tournament. The third ranked Lady ‘Noles shut out UAB and Tulane and got wins over Georgia State and College of Charleston to push their record to 24-1. This weekend, it’s off the Georgia for the CCSA Tournament as FSU will face LSU, South Carolina and UAB looking to advance to the conference title game and earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Men’s and Women’s Track and Field
Team members for the Seminoles were home this weekend for the annual Seminole Invitational, hosting runners and schools from across the country. This Friday, members of both teams will be in Gainesville for the annual Tom Jones Memorial Invitational on the campus of the University of Florida.
Men’s Tennis
Florida State was on the road to end the 2016 regular season, getting their fourth straight win with a 5-2 victory over ACC foe Boston College. Now, the 18-7 ‘Noles turn their attention to the conference tournament this Friday, being held in Cary, North Carolina as the ‘Noles look to qualify for the NCAA Tournament in mid-May.

Women’s Tennis
After losing six of their last eight matches, the Lady ‘Noles ended the 2016 regular season the right way with three straight wins this weekend to get their record above .500 for the year. Friday, FSU took out both Troy and Louisville before defeating Pittsburgh on Sunday. Wednesday, the Lady ‘Noles will open ACC Tournament play in Cary, North Carolina against Boston College, a team they beat 6-1 in late March.
Men’s Golf
FSU got a week off as they prepare for the ACC Championships, being held this year in New London, North Carolina. The ‘Noles come into tournament play as the sixth ranked team in the country and should be in a good position to make it to the NCAA Tournament starting May 12th.
Women’s Golf
The Lady ‘Noles had a disappointing showing in the ACC Tournament this weekend in North Carolina. After being in seventh place after the first day, FSU finished the three-day event in ninth place out of 12 teams. Now, the Lady ‘Noles wait for the NCAA Tournament, with matches starting May 12th across the country.
