Let’s take a look at how FSU Sports (Olympic) teams did this past week.

While much of the attention is paid to the major FSU sports, including football, basketball and baseball, there is plenty of other athletic competition going on right now on the Tallahassee campus and across the country involving the ‘Noles. Here’s a recap of how some of the Olympic sports fared this past week.

Softball

The winning just continues for the Lady ‘Noles as they ended the weekend with another three game series sweep, this time over ACC foe North Carolina on the road in Chapel Hill. The three games extended their win streak to 21 straight games and should get them into the top 10 heading into a midweek game at UCF and a weekend series at Notre Dame.

Beach Volleyball

The second ranked Lady ‘Noles were on the road this weekend in DeLand, Florida taking on some of the top teams in the country. After wins over 10th ranked FIU and fourth ranked UCLA, the Seminoles dropped their first match of the year when they lost to fifth ranked Hawai’i.
A match against FAU was cancelled due to weather, leaving FSU to prepare for a weekend trip to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where they will take on host LSU and Grand Canyon State.

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field

It was time for the Seminoles to play host to some of the top college runners and programs in the country for the annual FSU Relays at the Mike Long Track on campus. Plenty of FSU runners on both the men’s and women’s side came out on top and set the stage for another big weekend coming up, as many ‘Noles will travel to Gainesville for the annual Florida Relays hosted by the rival Gator, while others will take part in the Stanford Invitational in California.

Men’s Tennis

Florida State was home this weekend for a pair of ACC contest against Georgia Tech and Wake Forest. The ‘Noles came out on top against the Yellow Jackets, but dropped a weekend match to the Demon Deacons. FSU now stands at 5-3 in conference play and will travel to Notre Dame on Friday before hosting Oklahoma on Sunday.

Women’s Tennis

The struggles continue for the Lady ‘Noles as they split their two weekend conference matches this weekend, beating Boston College on Friday before losing to 12th ranked Virginia on Sunday.
The win over the Eagles was their first against an ACC foe this season, while the loss to the Cavaliers dropped them to 1-7 in conference play with matches at Notre Dame and Syracuse this weekend.

Men’s Golf

The ‘Noles started off strong in the Valspar Collegiate Invitational this past week in Palm City, Florida, but dropped from third place to 11th place before the three day event was over. They will have the week off before heading to North Carolina for the Irish Creek Intercollegiate Tournament.

Women’s Golf

The Lady ‘Noles had a successful time in South Carolina, where they took part in the Briar’s Creek Invitational and finished in fifth place for the tournament. Just like the men’s team, the Lady ‘Noles will be heading to North Carolina for their next tournament, taking part in the Bryan National Collegiate Invitational.
