Jalen Ramsey: Is he the next Patrick Peterson?
Jalen Ramsey won the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine, and though a lot of things can still change between now and Day 1 of the NFL Draft on April 28, we have a more complete picture this year’s prospects.
Prior to the combine we profiled Florida State cornerback/safety Jalen Ramsey and took a look at some of the highest drafted defensive backs in the past 10 years. Recently NFL Media analyst Mike Maycock asked the question on everyone’s minds regarding Ramsey: Could he be Patrick Peterson?
Now that the combine has come to an end and we have a full arrangement of tools at our disposal, let’s see how Ramsey stacks up to perhaps the highest rated defensive back in modern scouting in Peterson.
COLLEGE CAREERS —
Patrick Peterson:
Peterson played his high school ball at Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach, Florida where 247Sports regarded him as a composite five-star recruit and the sixth-best player in the nation in the class of 2008 before deciding to take his talents to Baton Rouge.

As a true freshman Peterson tallied 41 tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss and an interception in 13 games for LSU, four coming as a starter. Peterson continued to blossom his sophomore year, recording 52 tackles and two interceptions — one of which he returned for a touchdown — in 13 games and winning showdowns against the likes of A.J. Green and Julio Jones in the process.
With his second year with the Tigers generating buzz, Peterson delivered on the hype. Adding the return game to his repertoire, Peterson once again started a full 13-game season and racked up 932 yards on 32 kick returns and 418 yards and two scores on 26 punt returns in addition to 42 tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss, four interceptions returned for an average of 33.5 yards and a blocked field goal.
Almost needless to say, Peterson earned the Jim Thorpe Award, Chuck Bednarik Award and was voted a consensus All-American in 2010 as a result of his monster season.
