FSU Baseball Alone as Only Undefeated in ACC Conference Play
Following just a single weekend of conference baseball action, the Florida State Seminoles stand alone as the only team in the ACC without an “L” in the loss column in conference play. No. 21 FSU swept Boston College over the weekend by an average margin of four runs in all three games. The victory elevated the ‘Noles to 13-3 on the season and saw Boston College fall to 5-9.
The NC State Wolfpack enjoyed two significant home wins over a Clemson team that had just taken two of three games against No. 7 South Carolina recently in the annual showdown between in-state rivals. The series victory improved the Wolfpack to 9-4, and dropped the Tigers to 8-6 on the season.
In a battle of ACC heavyweights, it would take No. 15 Louisville a walk-off RBI single in its rubber match with Miami to earn the series victory. The largest margin of victory in the series was just four runs. These runs came in the Hurricanes lone win when Miami won by a score of 9-5. The smallest margin of victory was seen in game three when Louisville’s RBI single in the ninth inning decided the outcome for the home team Cardinals that won 5-4.
While Duke’s basketball team may have prevailed against the Tarheels on the hardwood Saturday night, it was the Tarheels who would enjoy the victory on the baseball diamond just hours before. UNC won its series against the Blue Devils, but dropped the third and final game on Sunday by a score of 9-2.

The resilient Yellow Jackets would battle back and take both Saturday’s and Sunday’s game at Russ Chandler Stadium to capture the series victory over Notre Dame. Georgia Tech’s series victory improved the Yellow Jackets to 11-4 on the season and handed Notre Dame just its second and third loss of the year. Notre Dame currently sits at 11-3 overall.
The home team Demon Deacons would spot Virginia Tech a game over the weekend as the Hokies enjoyed a game one victory in Winston-Salem. Wake Forest battled back to win the series behind an explosive offense in games two and three. The Deacons took game two by a score of 14-5 and game three by a score of 12-4.
In one of the biggest surprises of the weekend in the ACC, No. 3 UVA survived a series scare against the Pittsburgh Panthers who pushed the Cavaliers to the limit not just once, but twice. Virginia dropped game one of the neutral site series played in Cary, North Carolina by a score of 1-0. Game two saw just as significant of a struggle as the Cavaliers squeaked by the Panthers in a 2-1 victory. Sunday’s rubber match with the Panthers showcased a Virginia team that much of the country expected to see in all three games, as the Cavaliers took the series with a 10-3 victory.
The ‘Noles next see ACC action this weekend when they take on an offensively efficient Wake Forest squad in Tallahassee. The Demon Deacons currently sit at 11-5 on the season with a home and away two-game midweek series against Elon University still to play.
