Jimbo Fisher Gets Extension Through 2022

Florida State Head Coach Jimbo Fisher isn’t going anywhere. Well, other than Pasadena on the 26th. Per a release from FSU today, the ‘Noles have signed Fisher to a contract extension through 2022 that will make him one of the highest-paid coaches in college football. "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEFLORIDA STATE ANNOUNCES NEW EIGHT YEAR CONTRACT WITH JIMBO FISHERDecember 23, 2014Tallahassee, Fla. — Florida State University Director of Athletics Stan Wilcox announced today that the school and head football coach Jimbo Fisher have agreed to a new eight-year contract through the 2022 season. Fisher’s new contract will include an increase in salary that will make him one of college football’s highest paid coaches.“I am pleased that we have been able to secure Coach Fisher as our head coach for the long term,” said Wilcox. “The commitment we are making to him is a reflection of the outstanding job he has done in leading our program to its current level of excellence. While we are delighted with the undefeated season this year and our upcoming appearance in the inaugural College Football Playoff, we began working on this new contract before the success of this past season was in full view. It is a great day for Florida State.”Florida State has won 29-straight games dating back to the 2012 season. The Seminoles were undefeated in 2013 and won the National Championship with a 34-31 win over Auburn in the final BCS Title Game. FSU won the ACC Championship over Georgia Tech earlier this year and brings a perfect 13-0 record into the College Football Playoff matchup against Oregon in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day. Fisher has posted a 58-10 overall record in his five seasons as Florida State’s head coach.“I share Stan’s (Wilcox) enthusiasm and confidence in Coach Fisher as the leader of our football program,” said FSU President John Thrasher. “The success of our athletics programs provides valuable exposure for the outstanding teaching and research going on daily at the University, as well as to attract top faculty and students. Coach Fisher has done an outstanding job during his tenure as our head football coach and I am pleased that he will remain our coach into the foreseeable future.”The University is still working through some details of the contract and will release the document once it is complete.“I am honored to be the head coach at Florida State University, which I’ve said many times before,” Fisher said. “I appreciate that FSU believes in what we are doing and supports our goal of maintaining one of the best programs in the country. The team will practice on the morning of December 26th before boarding the charter flight to Los Angeles for the Rose Bowl."
