Florida State's 2027 recruiting class has caught a little bit of momentum lately with the commitments of four-star running back Jayden Miles and four-star linebacker/safety Jernard Albright. The Albright pledge was surprising to most, as he officially visited this past weekend.
As for Miles, he gained momentum during the first weekend. Fans thought that the Seminoles wouldn't generate much excitement with those visitors coming into Tallahassee. However, they landed four-star running back Jayden Miles and three-star defensive lineman Eric Vaulx Jr.
Fans drew criticism towards head coach Mike Norvell for his recruiting class, but some of it was because of his team's play on the field, where they had a 7-17 record over the past two years. Winning truly cures everything.
Florida State has focused on trying to connect on gems in the transfer portal, but schools like Miami are developing high school talent. This has to be the blueprint for the Seminoles, and I never thought that I would say that about being like the Hurricanes in 2026, but here we are.
The Seminoles have had their fair share of prospects who have decided to go elsewhere. With every pledge to another school, the negativity grows louder amongst the fan base. Who can blame them after Florida State ranks outside the top-40 in the 247Sports Composite rankings?
Former four-star wide receiver target Jabari Watkins commits to Arkansas after previously having Florida State at the No. 1 spot
Assistant coach Tim Harris Jr. has been an excellent recruiter for the Seminoles' staff. Harris Jr. grabbed six pass catchers in the 2026 cycle, with four-star Jasen Lopez, four-star Devin Carter, four-star EJ White, three-star Jonah Winston, three-star Brandon Bennett, and three-star Darryon Williams.
These true freshmen, especially Devin Carter and Jasen Lopez, could have huge impacts on the 2026 season. This could play a role in bringing more highly-touted prospects to campus. Surprisingly, the Seminoles aren't using more of that aspect to their advantage.
Florida State looks to be going all-in for four-star Sean Green, who just visited the Seminoles this weekend for an official visit. Green was joined by quarterback commit Logan Flaherty on the trip, and the coaching staff is hoping that it goes well because the target board overall for the position has not been doing anything at all.
What started this mess with Florida State's wide receiver targets was when four-star Jabari Watkins announced on social media that he would not be taking an official visit to the Seminoles. This was incredibly random to say out of the blue. The Georgia native had Florida State listed as his number one school in the spring.
Fans were frustrated because Watkins went to Thomas County Central High School in Thomasville, Georgia, and they thought that Florida State shouldn't lose prospects that are that close to campus. There was bad news on Monday that the pass catcher committed to Arkansas.

This just seems like a weird fit for Watkins' recruitment. I thought that Georgia Tech made the most sense with the proximity to home. Florida State is used to being the laughingstock. Watkins would have provided a solid wide receiver class with the Seminoles. It is a reminder that things can change in a hurry for high school recruiting.
