Florida State's 2027 recruiting class was consistently criticized by many individuals across the country. The Seminoles received backlash from their own fan base after arch-rivals Florida and Miami were securing highly-touted prospects left and right.
With that said, it is difficult to ignore that Florida State football had a combined 7-17 record over the past two weeks, and the 13-1 season from 2023 seems like a decade ago. However, the Seminoles have to tune out the doubters and get back on the right track.
Head coach Mike Norvell was counted out, and many have disrespected him since he is firmly on the hot seat. However, Florida State landed four-star linebacker/safety Jernard Albright from the South Carolina Gamecocks on Sunday, which was a surprise to some since he wasn't on anyone's radar, including mine.
Take that, Shane Beamer!
The Gamecocks got the best of four-star running back target Bradyn Tyson earlier in the year when he committed to South Carolina during his recruitment ceremony. Before he chose the Gamecocks, he decided that it was best to throw the Seminoles' hat on the ground and disrespect Florida State.
Four-star running back target Jayden Miles chooses Florida State over Ohio State and LSU
The Seminoles were able to get back their dignity, as they turned their attention to another running back. Class of 2027 four-star Jayden Miles from Baton Rouge Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, announced that he would be committing to the Florida State Seminoles on Monday.

Miles officially visited Florida State during the first official visit weekend on May 29th. Fans didn't know what to expect from the running back since he didn't take a trip during the spring.
The concerning part was that he was officially visiting Ohio State after. Plus, LSU was in his backyard, so the Tigers could have come calling at any time. I cannot express how big it was to still see Florida State compete with the likes of both of those schools, especially the Buckeyes, since they don't have a running back prospect in their class yet.
It isn't often that we see Mike Norvell shove both Lane Kiffin and Ryan Day in a locker for a recruit, but fans hope that it leads to more wins on the gridiron. The Seminoles had a talented back that they secured in the 2025 cycle with Ousmane Kromah, and then another four-star prospect in 2026 with Amari Thomas.
Florida State had a problem with utilizing too many running backs, and it almost turned into "magical chairs" where no one seemed to get into a rhythm. The hope was that Kromah would have gotten a bulk of the carries in 2025, and it seemed that way after the opener against Alabama, but he finished with less than 400 yards and zero rushing touchdowns last season.
Assistant coach Kam Martin is in charge of the running backs now and has a great track record of developing the position. He has coached four straight 1,000+ rushers, and that had to play a factor into why Jayden Miles chose Florida State.
