Development

We’re hearing names that were afterthoughts mentioned in practice nowadays. Some of it is likely because of the lack of depth at some positions, but some players are taking advantage of their opportunities.

Marketston Douglas and Brendan Gant are two names that come to mind right off of the top. Douglas has made some plays at tight-end, and Gant has flashed at linebacker after moving from safety last season.

The evolution of DJ Lundy continues, and it looks like he’ll be a vital piece on the defense. Amari Gainer has gotten better because of the increase in competition.

Renardo Green raised his level of play after getting threatened by younger players. The emergence of Deuce Spann has peaked a lot of folks interest.

I believe in this staff’s ability to evaluate talent and develop players. Jarrett Jackson was an afterthought when he transferred from Louisville and has evolved into a major depth piece on the defensive line and could become a starter in 2023.

Joshua Farmer was a three-star with hardly any offers when he became the first player to commit to Mike Norvell and his staff out of high school and now looks to become a major contributor on a stacked defensive line.

Other players are showing good development and should become contributors too.
