Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.

After a slump that had some wondering – including this writer – if the FSU baseball team was going to be breaking a postseason streak just like their football brethren did this past fall, head coach Mike Martin has had those who were writing the eulogy for the season put their pens down for at least one more week.

Once again, the Seminoles looked like a completely different team this weekend than the one who went 6-12 over a month long span of games and now looks like a team that actually wants to put up a fight to try and send Martin out a winner in his final season leading the Noles.

Now, FSU baseball returns home for a six game slate of games inside Dick Howser Stadium that starts with their first non-conference midweek series against an in-state foe who was one of the Cinderella stories of college baseball last season.

Here’s our preview of this week’s games between the Seminoles and their foe during this week of action.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

In a series that started a day earlier thanks to the holiday weekend of Good Friday, Passover and Easter, the Seminoles took on the Virginia Cavaliers in a three game series that the Noles knew they at least had to take two games in for it to be considered a successful trip.

On Thursday, FSU baseball continued their hot offense output from the three game sweep of Clemson as they put 14 runs on the board – including a five run seventh inning to seal the deal – and rode another strong pitching outing from Drew Parrish, who gave up just one run and five hits in six innings – as the Noles coasted to an opening game win.

Game two on Friday was pushed to Saturday thanks to weather – but the Noles overcame an early deficit in game one of the doubleheader, putting up five runs and holding off a late inning comeback attempt to take the series with a 5-3 win. In game three, the Seminoles took a knee as Virginia seemed to finally remember how to score runs en route to a 13-3 victory for the home team.

Opponent Preview

One season after making it to the Super Regional round of the NCAA tournament, the Stetson Haters limp into this week’s two game series with the Seminoles having a record of 18-20 on the season.

This past weekend, the men from DeLand took two out of three games against Atlantic Sun Conference foe Kennesaw State and now sit just two games out of first place in the conference with an all important series coming up against Florida Gulf Coast in two weekends.

Interesting Fact

When the Haters take the field on Tuesday night, they will be the eighth team from the state of Florida that FSU baseball was scheduled to play this season – the most for the Seminoles since they had eight teams on the schedule for the 2014 season.

This year, the Noles have a record of 3-7 against teams from Florida – including a 0-5 record against Florida, UCF and Jacksonville while having won their single games against FIU and North Florida and dropping two out of three against Miami (with their scheduled game against USF being cancelled).
