Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.

For the third straight weekend, the FSU baseball team not only took care of their opponents, but did so in such dominating fashion they looked like a team that might not just be ready to win the ACC again this season, but one that could make a deep run into the NCAA tournament during Mike Martin’s final season.

Now, no one is making plane and hotel reservations for Omaha just yet – but the Seminoles were able to use both the bats, gloves and avoided making mistakes to kill themselves for the third straight sweep of the season.

Now, the Noles look to do the one thing they have not been able to this season – actually play a game in the middle of the week as they welcome a cross state foe to Dick Howser Stadium.

Here’s our preview of this week’s game between the Seminoles and their foe during this week of action.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

On Friday, FSU baseball welcomed the Mercer Bears for the first of three games this weekend – and the Seminoles struck early with three runs in the first inning. Mercer would cut the lead to just one run later, but the Noles got four runs in the eighth inning – including two on a homer from Cooper Swanson – to get the 9-5 victory and get starting pitcher Drew Parrish his second win.

Saturday, it was much easier as the Bears scored first but the Seminoles scored 11 straight runs – including homers from Swanson and Drew Mendoza – to get the 12-1 victory. Sunday, the Noles completed the sweep as Mendoza went yard twice and Elijah Cabell hit one for the 5-1 victory.

Opponent Preview

The North Florida Ospreys come to town with an 8-5 record on the season after going 1-2 last weekend at a tournament in Pensacola, beating Western Kentucky before losing to Tennessee and Louisiana Monroe – but have wins this season over the Florida Gators and two victories over SEC member Missouri to start the year.

For the season, the Ospreys are batting .278 as a team with three starters batting over .300 in their 13 games played. On the mound, UNF has given up plenty of runs with an earned run average of 4.77 while allowing opponents to bat .279 on the season.

Interesting Fact

When the Ospreys and FSU baseball take the field, it will be just the 11th time the programs have met on the field – the third fewest amount for the Seminoles against any public university in the state of Florida.

In their history, the Seminoles have played Florida Atlantic just nine times and West Florida just five times (while Florida Poly doesn’t have an athletics program). By contrast, the Noles have played Florida 246 times along with 88 games against USF, 43 games against UCF, 22 games against Florida International and 13 games each against FAMU and Florida Gulf Coast.
