Amari Gainer

One of the areas on the team that needed to see the most improvement was linebacker last season.

FSU went into the season with Dontavious Jackson being the most experienced player there and he only had 37 career tackles.

Amari Gainer may have had an opportunity to get some valuable experience as a true freshman, but an injury basically forced him to redshirt.

He did play in four games with most of them taking place later in the season. Gainer has good size at 6’3 211 pounds and could find a nice role on the defense if no other players seize the opportunity.

FSU needs linebackers to trigger downhill in Harlon Barnett’s defense to stop the run. It’s something they struggled with last year, and they’ll need to have more of a physical presence in 2019.

Gainer has the tools to be one of those guys if he can stay healthy.
