Here’s a preview of FSU baseball and their next set of games during the 2019 season.

After an opening weekend that couldn’t have been written any better if it was a movie script for the FSU baseball team, the Seminoles and head coach Mike Martin were all set to hit the road for the first time this season against a long time foe for the program.

But, the most thought out plans can sometimes be made to be changed by forces beyond our control – and thus the Seminoles returned to Tallahassee without a victory…but without a loss either, so that’s a positive to look at.

So now, it’s back to Dick Howser Stadium for a three game weekend set against a program that I am pretty sure is just beyond happy to get out of the cold weather fof the rest of the country for at least a couple of days. Here’s our preview of this weekend’s game between the Seminoles and their foe during this week of action.

The Last Time The ‘Noles Took The Field

Okay, this one is a slight technicality since the Seminoles did actually touch the field in the middle of the week so we’ll answer this in two parts. When it came to playing actual games, FSU baseball did work in their opening series against Maine – including a no hitter in the opening game of the season as part of a four game sweep.

Now, in the middle of the week, the Seminoles were supposed to be over in Jacksonville for the first of three single games against the Dolphins. The scheduled Tuesday game was moved to Wednesday due to weather, but Mother Nature did not want these teams to play and the game was postponed with no makeup date set as of this point.

Opponent Preview

Starting Friday, the Seminoles will welcome the Youngstown State Penguins into town for a three game series and their first every visit to Dick Howser Stadium. The Penguins, who will play their first 20 games on the road this season, opened the year being swept in three games against Mississippi State last weekend while being outscored 36 to 5.

As a team, Youngstown State batted just .158 in that opening series with a total of 15 hits the entire weekend. Pitching wise, the Penguins’ staff combined for a robust 12.75 earned run average while striking out 13 batters and walking 13 others against the Bulldogs.

Interesting Fact

Not only will this be the first time that FSU baseball has met on the field against the Penguins, but it’s just the fifth time ever that the program have met in any sport. The other four meetings all came on the softball field, where the Noles took two games each season in 1997 and 1998.
