Less Explosive Plays

How many third and 10 plays did FSU football allow to be converted into a first down last season? No need to guess because I did an article on it last season and here’s a snippet:

"Third and long is anything seven yards or more in this case and here’s what we have. There have been 62 times the FSU defense has forced a third and 7 or longer on the season. Opposing teams have converted the first down 23 times which equates to 37 percent of the time. Those teams got 10 or more yards 20 times out of 23 times they converted third and 7 (86.9 percent)."

Man, that was awful to watch. How in the world can you get a team to third and long then give up a first down like clock work because of poor situational tactics?

FSU football gave up 154 plays (No. 29) of 10 yards or longer in 2017. Harlon Barnett’s defense gave up 136 plays (No. 12) of 10 yards or longer last season.

There will be times FSU gets gashed because of the aggressive style, but more times than not will be getting the better of those situations.
