FSU football got its first quarterback commitment in the 2019 class Monday night.

It had been a long time coming for FSU football when it comes to recruiting blue chip quarterbacks. The Noles failed to enroll one in the 2018 class with the new coaching change, early signing day period and other contributing factors.

However, the drought is over with the Monday night commitment of No. 4 ranked four-star quarterback Sam Howell out of Sun Valley High School in North Carolina.

He’s the first quarterback commit of the Willie Taggart era and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

FSU football is riding a wave of momentum that will culminate at the annual spring game Saturday evening at 6 p.m.

Guess what?

FSU’s newest commit will be making the trek back to Tallahassee after visiting a little over a week ago.

Impact on Recruiting

It’s one thing to have a blue chip linebacker (Amari Gainer) or blue chip defensive back (Stanford Samuels III) actively recruiting to help fill the class.

Those guys did a fantastic job, in particularly Gainer with what he had to endure with the coaching change while still working to build an excellent 2018 recruiting class.

However, it’s another thing when a blue chip quarterback joins the fold and starts recruiting to help fill the class. There’s just something about good quarterbacks that draws other blue chip players in, especially those skill guys.

Howell is active on social media and already has nearly 6,000 Twitter followers and he’s not even a senior in high school yet.

He has committed fairly early in the cycle which will allow him an opportunity to work even longer than Amari Gainer (committed May 26) did should he decide to become that bell cow recruit(and he should).

The fact that he’ll be at the spring game with other tons of FSU recruits fresh off his commitment could create a domino effect for the 2019 class moving forward.
