Regional Thriller vs Auburn

The Noles ACC title earned them an opportunity to host a regional. After dropping the first game of the regional to Tennessee Tech, FSU baseball had to climb their way out of the losers’ bracket and beat Auburn twice to advance past regionals.

More from FSU Baseball

That first game against Auburn was one of the most thrilling college baseball games that I have ever seen. With both teams deep into their rotations, Andrew Karp gave FSU a solid start and a chance to win the game. Both teams traded runs in the first inning to start the game off. Thanks in part to a monster shot home run from Dylan Busby, FSU put up a five spot in the 2nd to take a 6-2 lead and control of the game. Auburn would add runs in the 3rd and 7th innings to cut the deficit to 6-4.

A three run 9th inning for Auburn saw them take a 7-6 lead and it looked like FSU’s season was going to end in heartbreaking fashion. The Noles were down to their last strike in the bottom of the 9th when Taylor Walls drew a walk. The Noles were once again down to their last strike when Dylan busby blasted a ball off the centerfield wall to score Walls and tie the game on a triple. It was truly remarkable.

The Noles found some good fortune when freshman JC Flowers was hit by a with the bases loaded and an 0-2 count for the walk off victory, forcing a winner take all game the next day.
