Winning the ACC Title

After the series sweep of Louisville to end the regular season, the Noles had an extended stay as that is where the ACC tournament was held. FSU opened up their tournament play against the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. For a while it seemed as if the Noles work against Louisville was going to be erased by a poor showing against Notre Dame. The Irish tied the game at three in the 8th inning. A great defensive play by Steven Wells and a Jackson Lueck walk-off homer kept the Noles ACC championship hopes alive.

The Noles then got their third game against Louisville. Once again, Tyler Holton dominated the Cards. This time his line read 8 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 10 K. The 6-2 victory put the Noles in the driver’s seat on their side of the bracket.

The Noles followed up their impressive victory over Louisville with a routine beating of Duke by the score of 5-1. The win against the Blue Devils set FSU up with a date with number two, North Carolina and legit chance to host a regional. FSU got a big performance from the bullpen, along with two home runs from freshman Drew Mendoza to win the ACC title and earn a hosting bid for regionals.
