FSU baseball has undergone some major transitions on the field and with the coaching staff in the past two years. FSU head coach Link Jarrett brought several staff members to Tallahassee from Notre Dame when hired last summer.

Some of those staff have gone on to new roles, requiring Jarrett to make new hires. Baseball isn’t much different than other sports when talking about coaches hiring from certain coaching trees or guys they have experience working with.

That familiarity becomes even more important when there’s lots of transition on a staff. That’s likely one of the many reasons Link Jarrett hired Ty Megahee as the new Recruiting Coordinator.

The news became official earlier Tuesday afternoon:

Not only has Megahee coached with Link Jarrett in the past, but he also played for him. Megahee played for Jarrett for a year while at Mercer in 2004-05. He graduated from Mercer in 2006 and obtained a master’s degree there in 2008.

He’s been a recruiting coordinator for 12 years, with the last five at Pittsburgh with former FSU player and coach Mike Bell. Megahee coached with Jarrett at Auburn and helped land several top-25 recruiting classes, including helping Auburn secure a No. 1 seed in 2010.

He has 18 years of coaching experience, with about half of it at the Power 5 level and a good portion at Mercer, which runs a respected program. I think the biggest question is can Megahee help attract the type of talent FSU needs to make this a quick turnaround?

He’s helped land some guys that became big-time players and MLB Draftees. His experience in the JUCO ranks and in the portal is a plus. Ultimately, if you have questions about the hire, you have to trust Link Jarrett’s track record. He usually surrounds himself with quality people.

Welcome to Tallahassee Ty!
