FSU Olympic Sports Recap: May 3rd-9th
By Jason Parker
Let’s take a look at how FSU and their Olympic sport teams did this past week.
While much of the attention is paid to the major FSU sports, including football, basketball and baseball, there is plenty of other athletic competition going on right now on the Tallahassee campus and across the country involving the ‘Noles. Here’s a recap of how some of the Olympic sports fared this past week.
Softball
The week started off great for the second ranked Lady ‘Noles, who got the weekday win over rival and top ranked Florida with a walk off two run homer – giving FSU their first win over the Gators since 2014 and just their second win in the last 11 seasons. The party was short lived as they went out to the west coast and dropped their weekend series against fifth ranked Oregon for their first series loss of the year. The Lady ‘Noles will now head to Chapel Hill this weekend as the top overall seed in this year’s ACC Tournament, which starts Thursday.

After being upset in their opening match by Hawai’i, FSU stayed alive in the loser’s bracket with a win over South Carolina on Friday and UCLA on Saturday before losing again to Hawai’i, ending their 2017 season with a record of 29-9 and a fourth place finish in this year’s tournament.
Men’s and Women’s Track and Field
Both teams combined for 13 wins in this year’s Seminole Twilight tournament on Friday. Now, they will turn their attention to the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, taking place this coming weekend in Atlanta, GA.
Men’s and Women’s Tennis
The men’s team will start their run at a NCAA Tournament title this Friday in the Fort Worth, TX regional, where they will take on Arkansas and face the winner of Jackson State / TCU should they advance. The women’s team will also start their NCAA Tournament run on Friday in the Auburn, AL regional where they will face Arizona State followed by the winner of Auburn / DePaul should they advance.
Men’s and Women’s Golf
The men’s team gets to wait another week for their NCAA Tournament to begin, while the women’s team is in Columbus, OH for their regional, which started on Monday. The Lady ‘Noles are paired with the rival Florida Gators as well as South Carolina for the three day regional.
