FSU football has one of its memorable contests in program history when the 2013 version of the then-No. 5 Seminoles took on the then-No. 3 Clemson Tigers in a night matchup in the hostile environment of Death Valley.

Most remember former quarterback Jameis Winston’s pre-game speech featured a notable quote: “We ain’t leaving without a victory!”

That’s exactly what the Seminoles did that night as they cruised to a 51-14 blowout victory that had Clemson fans searching for the exits after they trailed by a score of 27-7 at halftime.

Fast forward to 2023, this current football team has aspirations to dethrone the Tigers from their ACC dominance after they have claimed seven of the last eight conference championships.

However, the Seminoles had quite the adventurous contest against the Boston College Eagles during last Saturday’s matchup. They were up by a score of 31-10 late in the third quarter before allowing head football coach Jeff Haffley and company to make it competitive at the end of the game.

There were several self-inflicted errors (maybe not as many self-inflected penalties as Boston College’s) and a lack of focus that played a role in making the game closer than it should have been.

While some individuals were left disappointed by the result of the contest, given that the Seminoles were three-score road favorites against the Eagles. However, fans have to realize that there is not a bad win in college football.

Head football coach Mike Norvell alluded in his post-game conference that FSU has a standard that they have to uphold to. While the football team cannot take wins for granted (we all understand what the Seminoles endured from 2017-2021), Florida State now possesses higher expectations that need to be fulfilled to positively impact the program.

Can they finally be able to take the next step as a football program and finish the job on Saturday afternoon?
