FSU Olympic Sports Recap: April 26th-May 2nd
By Jason Parker
Let’s take a look at how FSU and their Olympic sport teams did this past week.
While much of the attention is paid to the major FSU sports, including football, basketball and baseball, there is plenty of other athletic competition going on right now on the Tallahassee campus and across the country involving the ‘Noles. Here’s a recap of how some of the Olympic sports fared this past week.
Softball
It was another successful weekend for the second ranked Lady ‘Noles, who finished out the ACC schedule at home against North Carolina. After getting a shutout win vs. the Tar Heels on Friday, FSU got an 8-1 win on Saturday – with Jessica Warren making history by breaking the school season record for homers with 56 – and a 6-2 victory on Sunday. This week, the Lady ‘Noles will conclude their home regular season schedule Wednesday against top ranked Florida and the regular season this weekend on the road at sixth ranked Oregon.
Beach Volleyball
After finishing the 2017 season with another conference title, the fourth ranked Lady ‘Noles will head to Gulf Shores, Alabama this weekend for the NCAA Tournament. As the fourth seed, FSU will open double elimination play against fifth seeded Hawai’i on Friday – a team they beat once this season. Win and the Lady ‘Noles will take on the winner of Southern Cal and South Carolina, while a loss will mean an elimination game against the loser of that match.

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field
It was a split weekend for both teams, who sent members to Gainesville for the Tom Jones Relays and to Philadelphia for the prestigious Penn Relays. Both teams will be at home this Friday to finish out the regular season at the annual Seminole Twilight meet.
Men’s and Women’s Tennis
The men’s team got a win in their ACC Tournament opener over Clemson on Thursday, but dropped their second match against North Carolina on Friday and now will wait two weeks before starting the NCAA Tournament. The women’s team also won their tournament opener over Virginia, but dropped their second round match as well against North Carolina and wait to see if they will qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
Men’s and Women’s Golf
The men’s team continues to wait for the NCAA Tournament to start on Monday, May 15th while the women’s team dropped their match this weekend against Duke in the Northwestern Quad Women’s Golf Match. The Lady ‘Noles now turn their attention to the NCAA Tournament, where they are the second seed in the Columbus Regional, where they will be joined by schools such as Florida, South Carolina, Ohio State, Michigan, Louisville and Kentucky among others.
