Florida State football is sitting with a 5-6 record, as the program started so well against the likes of the Alabama Crimson Tide in the opener. However, the Seminoles have slid into their losing ways by not being able to win on the road.
The fan base is irritated that head football coach Mike Norvell is being retained for the 2026 season, after having two winning seasons in his six years at the helm. With that said, this isn't an opportunity for myself to throw pitchforks at Norvell.
Instead, the administration stated that there would be changes to how they operate. Individuals saw that they had a massive overhaul on the roster (once again) and to the coaching staff. There is only so many times that you can do that before it falls on the guy leading the charge.
High school recruiting has been a downside to the struggles, even though the 2025 recruiting class has been a massive success as true freshmen. The Seminoles seem to be too reliant on the transfer portal earlier in Norvell's tenure. This pretty much ruined the chances of having productive recruits since some might have been scared of transfers.
This should not be an illustration of doing it Dabo Swinney's way with just using high schoolers with a very limited pool of transfers. However, the Seminoles should know that high school recruits should be the core foundation of a roster.
With the Early Signing Period starting next Wednesday, December 3rd, this is go-time for Florida State to impress the high schoolers and make their lasting impressions. One recruit that I mentioned earlier to have smoke heading to the Seminoles was four-star defensive end Kamron Wilson (Syracuse commit) from Miami, Florida.
Wilson has visited Florida State multiple times, and has a good relationship with head football coach Mike Norvell. However, there was bad news that surfaced on social media by On3's Steve Wiltfong, as he reported that Wilson is likely to stick with Syracuse.
After trending towards Florida State last night and this morning, I now think prized pass rusher Kamron Wilson will stick with Fran Brown and Syracuse. More on that here: https://t.co/E3yj7GYFgN https://t.co/H2fF5jVrv6

This is a bit disappointing, as I thought that the program wanted to put extra resources into high school recruiting and bring talented prospects into Tallahassee. Wilson was a recruit that the coaching staff could have grown, even though the Seminoles have six defensive linemen in the class.
This isn't an opportunity to say that it isn't a big deal because Florida State needs as many pass rushers as it can get. Hopefully, this means that the Seminoles have better chances with a more talented recruit.
