Florida State football has been behind the eight-ball for the past couple of years, where they have had six losing seasons in eight years. The inconsistency has hurt the program, which allowed the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes to become relevant again.
Head coach Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes have always been able to recruit at a high level, but the play on the field needed work. The football program was a joke that Florida State consistently joked about, especially about not winning the conference.
However, when Miami was able to make it to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Indiana, they immediately became the talk of college football. Seminole fans (including myself) hope that it was just a lucky year for the Hurricanes.
Five-star wide receiver Nick Lennear from Miami stayed home with the Hurricanes
The high school recruiting efforts under head coach Mike Norvell have been questionable at best. The Seminole faithful have been disappointed that Florida State has not secured a top-ten recruiting class during his tenure.
While the 2027 recruiting class could be that chance to accomplish that, Florida State is in a must-win now mode, with a combined 7-17 record over the past two years. Mike Norvell has been on many hot board conversations, and it has come to a point where the bleeding has to stop.
The Seminoles have five commitments in the 2027 class, but they do not have a wide receiver prospect pledged. The top option that seems realistic is four-star wide receiver Jabari Watkins. However, assistant coach Tim Harris Jr. has to continuing growth that room into something special.
A special recruit that Florida State was going after was five-star wide receiver Nick Lennear from Miami Carol City High School in Miami, Florida. The Hurricanes look to have the lead for his services heading into the week, and the fact that he had only scheduled his official visit with Miami on May 29th.
While this seemed like a layup for the hometown team, Miami, it was good to see Florida State be competitive in the recruitment. However, former head coach Jimbo Fisher made a living off of going into the territory and getting who he wanted.
Hopefully, the Seminoles can get back to that because Lennear would be the type of prospect (like Malachi Toney) that could cause Florida State to have nightmares.
