Former Florida State player leaves Miami in the dust for better opportunity

I am glad that this former Seminole made a better decision for himself.

Florida State had to build a foundation under Mike Norvell before the exceptional seasons in 2022 and 2023. The Seminoles have been underwhelming over the past two seasons. As a result, the fan base is starting to doubt the abilities of Norvell's ability to lead the program in the right direction.

There were quality players who set the culture of Florida State to have its success later on, such as defensive end Jermaine Johnson. Sure, it was unfortunate that they took some unexpected hits in 2021, like losing to FCS opponent Jacksonville State in heartbreaking fashion.

Johnson set the foundation of what it meant to be a Florida State Seminole when adversity hit. He made his presence known during the 2021 season. That was the pattern before Florida State had its surprising 10-3 campaign in 2022.

Former offensive lineman Devontay Love-Taylor made the smart decision

Just like Johnson, former offensive lineman Devontay Love-Taylor was someone that the Seminoles valued highly. He was an offensive tackle transfer from Florida International, who the coaching staff figured would make a difference in the rotation.

Love-Taylor arrived on campus in 2020 when head football coach Mike Norvell was hired at Florida State. He needed to get some veteran leadership in the offensive line, and the experienced tackle was someone that the team needed. Unfortunately, the Seminoles finished with a 3-6 record in a COVID-riddled disaster of a season.

The offensive lineman appeared in seven games in 2020 and was awarded the opportunity to come back in 2021 due to eligibility flexibility with the pandemic. Then, he switched over to right guard in 2021, where he played in nine games.

After his playing career was finished, he joined former Florida State offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham at Arizona State and was promoted to Director of Scouting. This was something that Seminole fans could be proud of until Love-Taylor decided to continue his coaching career with the Miami Hurricanes.

This was disgusting, as the fan base never wants to see a former Seminole help the Hurricanes, but 247Sports' Matt Zenitz reported that Love-Taylor has now left Miami and is expected to go to East Carolina to take a General Manager role.

This is a tremendous elevation for Love-Taylor's coaching career, and something that is worth celebrating. It looks like he was quickly making a name for himself, and it is great to see that Miami cannot benefit from that. East Carolina got a great one!
