Florida State closed out its summer official visits this weekend, hosting three players, which ended on a good note. Jemari Foreman shut down his recruitment after flirting hard with Louisville, and Florida State made good impressions on 3-star defensive end Stevan Thornton III and 3-star linebacker CJ Ohuabunwa.
The latter two are targets who have emerged over the last few months, with Thornton earning an offer and an official visit after working out over a week ago. The defensive end position seems to be a major priority for Florida State after having zero pass rush the past two seasons.
Florida State held its annual Seminole Showcase Camp and offered another 2027 defensive end, Princeton Umanmielen:

Florida State still working to acquire talent in its 2027 recruiting class at defensive end
The Texas native received an offer from Ole Miss and Texas State in August 2025, and one from UTSA last month. Is the offer a sign of desperation, or do they believe he’s a diamond-in-the-rough type?
Umanmielen visited Florida State in April and worked out for the coaches then but didn't receive an offer.
Just looking at the clips in his offer post, Umanmielen is a long way from being a contributor physically. He looks like he’s under 200 pounds, and most listings I have seen would confirm that. He’s listed at 6’3”, so he could probably add about 30-40 pounds and possibly be a nice speed rusher off the edge on third downs. Maybe they could use him at outside linebacker in the 3-3-5 stack?
This is an offer that they will probably sit on and see how he continues to develop over his senior year, and possibly bring him in for an official visit during the season. Who they get commitments from between now and then may impact this recruiting as well. FSU defensive ends coach Nick Williams seems to have an eye for talent, as he developed relationships with several upper-tier defensive ends in the 2027 cycle. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt here since he's already seen the young man work out in person before.
However, the thing that gives me a lot of pause is that none of the larger schools in Texas have offered. No disrespect to Texas State and USTA, but it would make it feel better if someone like SMU, Baylor, or someone like that had offered by now. However, one thing I'll note is this kid has gone to nearly a dozen camps and put in work at every single one. He has gotten solid reviews and writeups about his motor and not taking plays off. He seems to have a good work ethic and mentality.

I guess the best way to look at it is that some of the Florida State coaches are leaving no stone unturned as they look for talent with the resources they have. The biggest thing for this young man is the need to add a lot of size over the next two years. If he can do that and maintain his speed and motor, he might develop into a solid college player.
