5-star on the horizon for FSU football recruiting with commitment from Jasen Lopez?

JASEN LOPEZ COMMITS TO THE NOLES

Florida State football's 2026 recruiting class continues its red-hot streak of commitments this summer as it secured the pledge of four-star wide receiver Jasen Lopez on Thursday afternoon. The Seminoles' fan base can also get excited because he is listed as a four-star point guard on the hardwood, too.

Florida State is ranked as the 8th-best recruiting class in the 2026 cycle, according to 247Sports Composite. It doesn't look like they are finished yet, as the program has solidified twenty pledges thus far, which appears to be a "weakness" in the fan base's perception of Mike Norvell.

Lopez is a standout wide receiver from Chaminade-Madonna Prep, where he recorded 257 receptions for 4,206 yards and 48 touchdowns during his four seasons at the school (he played in the eighth grade).

COULD LOPEZ'S COMMITMENT GENERATE MORE MOMENTUM?

The pass catcher is a talented option that four-star quarterback commit Jaden O'Neal could use all over the football field. I wonder if Lopez, from Chaminade-Madonna Prep, could bring in some of his talented teammates, with the high school being such a powerhouse program.

One name that I am keeping my eye on is five-star running back Derrek Cooper. I once thought that it was a lock for him to head to the local Miami Hurricanes, but I assumed that Lopez would do the same thing, and he ended up committing to Florida State (I guess he could still sign with Miami).

While some schools are recruiting him as a defensive back, Florida State is eyeing Cooper as a running back prospect. The 6'1" and 200-pound athlete had 124 carries for 905 yards and 13 touchdowns. I know that the Seminoles already have four-star running back Amari Thomas, but I always say that Florida State needs to grab as much talent as they can in high school recruiting.

The Seminoles got an official visit from Cooper on June 15th when four-star quarterback Jaden O'Neal was in town. The talented running back is getting recruited by schools such as Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, and Miami, but Florida State isn't backing down from anyone right now, and it wouldn't surprise me if the Seminoles were the dark horse to watch with him deciding on July 12th.
