The recruiting heater FSU is on in June has been impressive, to say the least. The Noles continued their assault on the recruiting trail on Thursday, landing a commitment from a dual-sport athlete, Jasen Lopez.

Lopez will play football AND basketball at FSU, continuing the trend of dual-sport athletes like BJ Gibson and Micahi Danzy.

Lopez holds offers from nearly 30 schools and took official visits to Miami, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, and NC State. He also held offers from Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Nebraska, and others.

He had basketball offers from Florida, Arizona State, and others.

He ranks as the No. 252 player and No. 43 wide receiver nationally. He's a top 40 player in the Sunshine State and lists at 5'11" and 165 pounds.

This is a big win for FSU football and new FSU basketball coach Luke Loucks. Chaminade-Madonna is in Miami's backyard and FSU has lost some recruiting battles to Miami with blue-chip players from that school. Lopez will be a point guard on the hardwood, but has tremendous production on the gridiron at Chaminade-Madonna as a junior.

He averaged 21 ppg as a sophomore and 25 ppg as a junior.

He had 87 receptions or 1,300 yards and 14 touchdowns in his junior year. Lopez looks like a perfect fit in the slot, combining excellent quickness and the ability to separate with ease from defenders. However, his basketball background and leaping ability make him formidable in contested situations.

I can see Lopez creating mismatches against linebackers on drag routes, screens, and slants. Gus Malzahn could use him out of the backfield in several packages.

Lopez has a smaller frame but stands to put on another 10-15 pounds over the next year or two. I think he's someone who could compete early if he's a spring enrollee. He's the 20th commit in the 2026 recruiting class (No. 9 overall) and the fifth wide receiver. I don't think that FSU will take five receivers, which means they could lose a current WR commit or one will convert to a defensive back.
