Florida State’s football spring camp will get underway on Monday, March 9th. Mike Norvell will have 15 practices for a program that’s in dire need of a good season.
The Noles hit rock bottom in 2024, rebounded in 2025 with three more wins than 2024, and had a couple of lone bright spots like the upset win over Alabama to open the season.
The spring will be similar to the past two years. FSU has 50 new players enrolled this spring, 27 from high school/JUCO and 23 transfers.
There are many questions going into spring camp, but Mike Norvell seems confident in what he’s seen from the team thus far in Tour of Duty and other workouts.
Here are the three biggest going into spring camp:
Quarterback
Everyone expects Ashton Daniels to be the starting quarterback going into 2026. He has the most experience and the skillset to find adequate success in Mike Norvell’s offense. Can they hone in on his propensity to throw interceptions and his accuracy issues? They just added an assistant QB coach from Auburn who worked with Daniels last year which should help since he saw some improvements there. If they can get to a point where they feel confident in Daniels as a leader and ability to execute in the offense? That could take this team farther than anyone can imagine. A better quarterback would have helped FSU get at least eight wins last year.
Offensive line
FSU offensive line coach Herb Hand worked magic last season with an offensive line built from the transfer portal, who missed working together most of last spring because of injuries. He had to go the portal route again, but he has some holdovers from last season, and most everyone seems healthy enough to get reps this spring. How much continuity can they build in 15 practices? How much depth can they develop? A strong offensive line would be a shock in the line to this offense and help the quarterback out.
Defensive line
I’m not too concerned at linebacker and in the secondary because everything starts up front with defenses. The loss of Darrell Jackson Jr. to the NFL can’t be understated, but FSU retained three key pieces in the Desir Twins and Kevin Wynn. FSU coaches seem high on the evolution of Daniel Lyons and brought some portal help for depth and a pass rush. The offense didn’t do the defense any favors in at least three games last year, so it was hard to gauge that unit at times. If they can solidify things on the defensive front, that will make it much easier for the linebackers and defensive backs to perform.
