Deuce Spann

It was absolutely remarkable seeing Deuce Spann (or as some like to pronounce his last name “Spawn”) utilize his blazing speed to have a 99-yard kickoff return to get the Seminoles back in the game versus the Duke Blue Devils. However, he has virtually been a non-factor in the passing game where the former Illinois transfer only has one reception for 23 yards, which was recorded in their contest against Southern Miss back in September.

The offensive system revolves around pieces such as wide receivers Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson, tight ends Jaheim Bell and Kyle Morlock, and running back Trey Benson, among others. However, the unit does tend to go stagnant at times. It could be helpful to have new weapons in to keep the opposing defenses on their toes.

With that being said, I would not count out the converted quarterback (Spann) from breaking out. The coaching staff could most likely use his speed in certain packages. Hopefully, they will allow him to go back in kickoff return duties as well. While I might be drinking the Kool-Aid from former wide receiver Kermit Whitfield’s kickoff return for a touchdown in the 2013 BCS National Championship Game against Auburn, I still believe that Spann could change the outcome of a football game with one play.
