Recruiting

FSU football has ventured into Louisiana in the last two recruiting cycles under Mike Norvell. FSU running backs coach and recruiting coordinator David Johnson has a great reputation in the state as a former high school coach.

The Noles signed blue-chip Ja’Khi Douglas and speedster Corey Wren from Louisiana in the 2020 recruiting class. They also signed blue-chip wide receiver Destyn Hill in the 2021 recruiting cycle and are battling LSU for several recruits in the 2022 cycle.

One of the biggest battles is for FSU legacy blue-chip offensive lineman Julian Armella. LSU is the only official visit Armella has taken beside his official visit to FSU for the Notre Dame game.

FSU head coach Mike Norvell and FSU offensive line coach Alex Atkins visited Armella Saturday, just one day before the news of Orgeron leaving LSU.

LSU linebacker DeMario Tolen is another recruit FSU had shown interest. Tolen hails from South Florida and would be a welcome addition to a linebacker unit that needs an infusion of talent. Another recruiting target would be blue-chip athlete Kendrick Law.

Law, a top 100 player nationally, officially visited FSU during the Notre Dame game. All of the 247 Crystal Balls favored LSU in Law’s recruitment, but the departure of Orgeron will likely impact that big-time since his staff will likely all depart.
