FSU football fans had to smirk at the news of Ed Orgeron and LSU mutually agreeing to part ways after the 2021 season.
Almost immediately after that news broke, a report came out that Jimbo Fisher would be among the top candidates LSU would pursue. It’s a familiar story for FSU football fans, who had to deal with Jimbo Fisher flirting with LSU several times before he ultimately quit on the program and bolted for Texas A&M.
Who knows, it could be another ploy by Jimbo Fisher’s agent to get him even more money, although Texas A&M just gave him a raise.
It’s perfect timing after becoming the first former assistant to beat Nick Saban in week six.
#LSU and Ed Orgeron have reached a separation agreement: He will not return in 2022 but expected to complete this season, sources tell @SINow.

Negotiations began last week before UF win.
It’s unprecedented in the sport - coach & school divorcing 21 months after winning it all.
LSU AD Scott Woodward lured Jimbo Fisher to Texas A&M with a historic contract. It contained no buyout for Fisher to leave. Could Woodward hire him at LSU because Fisher can still — after an extension — walk away for free. LSU’s list starts with Jimbo: https://t.co/oQlYub1GRv

I found LSU allowing Ed Orgeron to continue coaching the team through the end of the year a bit odd.
However, LSU did play hard for him in their upset over Florida Saturday afternoon. Maybe that will continue through the rest of the regular season.
Ironically, the final game he’ll coach at LSU will be against Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M.
On the surface, FSU football fans likely know the Jimbo Fisher angle, but Ed Orgeron leaving LSU could impact FSU in other ways.
