FSU Defense

Ah, the FSU defense and hot topic of FSU defensive coordinator Adam Fuller. A lot of FSU fans believe Mike Norvell should have fired Fuller after last season.

I believe that’s short-sighted thinking for a few reasons. The FSU defense was indeed awful, but most college defenses were worse than usual in 2021.

If you tell a baker you want a cake and don’t give him all of the ingredients, or don’t give them the amount of time required to make the cake.

I don’t think it’s fair to expect that cake to taste or look like it would under normal circumstances. I also don’t think it’s fair to make a change with a group of players that have had three different defensive coordinators since 2017.

It would be hard not to show improvement with how bad the defense was in 2020, but Fuller had a track record of making improvements in year one at two previous coaching jobs.

Did the defense look better in the spring game? Again, it was a scrimmage, and the players looked to be in position most of the time. They looked coordinated for as much as one could deduct from a scrimmage.

Several players who should log a lot of snaps who were not on the field during the spring game.

I think most people believe the offense will improve(I’m in that group), but the defense is the biggest question going into 2021.
