Field Goal Kicking

I knew this unit was going to be one that would lack consistency last season. FSU football had a freshman kicker and former walk-on with limited experience.

The two combined to make 4 of 7 field goals during the season, and the misses were bad.

That’s part of the reason why Mike Norvell went for it on fourth down so often. Sure, some of it was trying to get the offense needed reps in real games.

However, 28 fourth-down attempts in only nine games far surpass Mike Norvell’s fourth-down attempts while at Memphis while playing 3-4 more games.

FSU also has a kicker coming aboard as a preferred walk-on this fall.

The staff also took a preferred walk-on kicker in the 2020 class in Aidan Shahriari. The offense doesn’t want to kick field goals, but the importance of having confidence in a kicker to make routine field goals can’t be understated.

Here’s to hoping this unit becomes a strength for the Noles in 2021.
