FSU Football: Storylines and names to watch after spring camp week two
By Cole Maines
This position group received the spotlight Tuesday with tight ends coach Chris Thomson and Camren McDonald speaking to the media.

McDonald received both praise and construction from his coaches. He has proved himself to be a valuable weapon in the offensive scheme and has improved his blocking skills.
He is using his added weight well but is still learning various types of blocking. He mentioned that he likes his own development and can tell himself that he is bigger. He said even his dad noticed the other day, and that was big to him.
I would also like to say that he is a star. He has established himself as a leader in this program and echoes his coaches his preparation and in how he talks about his teammates.
More broadly, Coach Thomson said that he liked the competition and physical gains of his group. He mentioned Wyatt Rector and McDonald are playing in the low 240’s weight-wise and using that added physicality to get in and out of breaks, improve blocking and become more attuned to the offense’s needs.
Jackson West has been singled out positively throughout spring practice by both coaches and teammates. The true freshmen gained 10-12 pounds which are exceptional for a freshman. His physicality was complimented a couple of times by multiple coaches and is adjusting well to college football.
McDonald said he “was a huge addition to the tight end room,” and that he “doesn’t conduct himself like a freshman.”
Preston Daniel is one more name I would like to mention. The walk-on tight end played a lot last season and played well. That performance has bought him a ton of goodwill, and he has done well with it.
In the first spring scrimmage, he was a starter alongside McDonald, and Daniel did well. He has quietly had a good spring. Daniel isn’t a guy that says much, so it’s easy to overlook him although he comes to work every day.
I would like to see him and this position group get more media coverage throughout the spring.
