This weekend was also big since Tywone Malone was on campus. The highly touted two-sport athlete visited Tallahasse with family on Friday and Saturday and could be a turning point in his recruitment.

Malone had never been to campus before, despite remaining in consistent contact with Coach Odell Haggins and the FSU baseball staff since early in his recruitment, according to Malone’s high school coach.

While on campus, Malone saw the baseball and football fields, work out areas, as well as dorms, and the rest of the campus. Each team’s staff has done their due diligence in trying to beat out other suitors for Malone’s services.

Malone plans to decide in early February after he takes an independent visit to Texas A&M. He has previously visited A&M, which seems to be the main competition other than Ole Miss.

FSU does have options in the transfer portal, should they be unable to make up ground in Malone’s recruitment. Owen Carney is one of the big remaining names. His body type and play style are very similar to Keir Thomas.

Both can rush and set the edge. Carney camped with the Noles while in high school, and to belabor this point, Saturday night, in response to the Thomas commitment, Carney responded on social media, “Meet you down there.” I don’t normally look too deep into a player’s social media, but maybe that was a tell-ell sign?

I think, barring a major change in Malone’s recruitment, Carney could come to Tallahassee.
