I want this staff to fill one of the remaining spots with a high school or transfer offensive lineman.

It’s clear this staff has not been in love with the current prospects in the portal and don’t see them as takes. They still speak with Austin Uke, a high school tackle out of Texas, as far as I know, and he could fill the role Kimo Makeonole had as a commit.

He has good measurables and is a good developmental type, but they already have Rod Orr, a four-star tackle and converted basketball player. Should they dedicate two roster spots on projects in a position of need?

I don’t think that’s what they do. This staff does like their young core, especially since Devontay-Love Taylor announced he will return in 2021. That’s the equivalent of getting a transfer there.

The youth at tackle, like the emergence of Robert Scott and Darius Washington, is also encouraging and doesn’t make trying to find an offensive lineman a mad dash.

The staff could find more ready-made high school prospect out of either Virginia or California since both of those states have yet to play a high school season.

If we don’t see a high school prospect sign in February, we could see this process go into the summer with either a grad transfer type (one who isn’t in the portal) or a ready-made high schooler who has yet to play their season and could emerge late in the process.
