Jordan Travis

Jordan Travis, and by extension the running game as a whole, was a major silver lining for the Seminoles offense. It started when he took over for Tate Rodemaker in the Jacksonville State game.

There was a shift in mentality that started that game and lasted until the Louisville loss. In the first two games of the season, under James Blackman, the team scored 23 points. Just in the Notre Dame game, FSU scored 26.

Travis is limited as a thrower, and the shoulder injury in his nonthrowing arm limited him as the season progressed, but his initial impact keyed the offense into the drive to beat the spread over No. 5 Notre Dame and outright No. 5 UNC.

I say “keyed,” and I say “running game as a whole,” because of how the running backs emerged in tandem with Travis.

As we saw against Duke, the running backs and Travis moved together and combined for six touchdowns, and 18 from the group throughout the season.

The biggest strides we have seen on the team have been in the running game. RB Lawerence Taofili finished the season with a 9.6 yards per rush average, and Travis, Corbin, Webb, and Taofili combined for over 1,500 rushing yards.

The running game and Jordan Travis were this season’s saving grace.
